Details of Disappearance
Geneva Adams was last seen at the Artesian Lounge, Herculaneum, Missouri, on July 24, 1976. She arrived at The Artesian Lounge just before midnight. She wasn't much into nightlife but on this evening, Adams laughed and danced with Jimmie Lee Mills, 33, a mechanic and her son's bus driver for Festus schools. Adams' family doubts she knew Mills' criminal background when she let him drive her home. She was never seen again. Her children reported her as missing the following day.
Mills told police he and Adams went to an East St. Louis bar after The Artesian but found it was closed. He said he dropped her off at a doughnut shop on Highway 61 in Crystal City about 4 a.m. Although Adams told her daughter she had met Mills previously, Mills said that he met her for the first time on the night she disappeared. Foul play is feared.
Jimmy Lee Mills, who was the last person to see Geneva,
has been a person of interest in this case, another missing woman case, along with a rape case and had weapons charges.
Mills is currently in a Virginia federal prison.
Geneva Adams grew up in Peach Orchard, Arkansas, was a mother of 10, once-widowed and once-divorced. She lived in Festus, working short-term jobs at factories and nursing homes.
Authorities have been unable to find a case file on Adams' disappearance. The investigative notes and files may have been destroyed in a fire in 1981 at the Crystal City police station.
