Details of Disappearance
Marcos and Vito Romani took the Romani's 46-foot fishing boat called the "Gina Lisa" on a fishing expedition 18 miles West of the Coronado Islands and the boat disappeared on December 5, 2004.
Family members believed the two men were victims of a collision with a tanker or freighter.
Weather conditions at the time were very rough. Winds were blowing at 34 to 45 knots, swells up to 8 feet, hail and poor visibility were reported.
The Coast Guard located the 46-foot vessel sitting upright at the bottom of the ocean, nearly 4,000 feet below the surface.
The life raft of the Gina Lisa was found floating in the high seas empty.
The bodies of the two experienced fisherman have never been found.
