Details of Disappearance
Mary was last seen at her residence in the vicinity of the 20 block of Wakeman Road. Her husband stated that when he returned home from work, she was missing. Most of her belongings were also missing, although her vehicle was still at her residence. Mary's husband reported seeing her car on their property with the windshield smashed on or about August 20, 1984, the date Mary was last seen alive. Mary's vehicle disappeared shortly thereafter and has not been seen since.
Dominic Badaracco has said his wife left with $100,000 in cash and possessions after they decided to divorce. The only trace left of Mary Badaracco that day in August 1984 was a wedding ring and a set of car keys. Everything, from pictures on the wall to her old blue jeans and T-shirts, had been removed. In the days and weeks after Mary Badaracco vanished, Dominic Badaracco never told the police that his wife was missing. Mary Badaracco was reported missing by her daughters in August 1984.
Her husband of 14 years was the last person to see her alive at her home. He told her children to tell no one - especially not the police and he said his lawyer would handle it. His lawyer only began a petition for divorce on the grounds of desertion. He has not co operated with the investigation and has been named the suspect in her 25 year old disappearance. Foul play is suspected.
In February 2012, state police spent a day searching Dominic Badaracco's Sherman home, where he once lived with Mary. Over the past few years police have excavated other property with connections to Dominic Badaracco. No charges have been filed against either of two men investigated by a secret grand jury probing the cold case of Mary Badaracco. The grand jury closed its investigation.
