  • Details of Disappearance
Jan disappeared from the Western State Mental Hospital in Lakewood, Washington on September 12, 2001. Lakewood is a suburb of Tacoma, WA. The social workers who worked with her are convinced her health was so poor she would not have been able to walk/travel very far. The hospital did not notify Jan's family about her disappearance until about 5 weeks later. Someone (unknown to the family) notified Social Security about her "death", and listed her death date as February 22, 2002. However, the Washington State Governor's office has never been able to locate a death certificate, so the sheriff's department still has Jan listed as missing.
