Details of Disappearance
On the evening of August 11, 2009, Kayla left her father’s home in Antigo, Wisconsin with her 24 year old friend Kevin Kielcheski
and has not been seen or heard from again.
Kevin, who is the last known person to see Kayla that night, states he and Kayla went on a joyride around town before dropping her off at her ex-boyfriend home in Wausau, Wisconsin, about 40 minutes from her home. Kevin reportedly drove away and never saw if Kayla entered the home, which he described as a dark residence with no one else around.
Investigators say Kevin has remained cooperative throughout the investigation and his story has remained unchanged. Police have interviewed Kayla’s ex-boyfriend on a number of occasions and he continues to deny ever seeing Kayla that night or any other since her disappearance. From the beginning, Kayla’s family and friends said that she not the type of person to run away and always kept in close contact with her family regarding her whereabouts. Months after Kayla vanished, police arrested Kevin Kielcheski and charged him with second-degree reckless endangerment. These charges were filed based on his admission that he consumed drugs with Kayla and that she has been missing since. His arrest did not provide any new details about Kayla’s disappearance.
Kayla is known to her family and friends as a happy, upbeat, and typical teenager. She had a passion for gymnastics and would never leave without contacting her family for this long.
