  • Details of Disappearance
    Dennis Boyd, of Columbia County, GA, near Augusta, was reported missing by his brother on May 8, 2012. A deputy in Polk County, NC, found Boyd the next day while investigating a stranded vehicle. Boyd told the deputy he was driving to Nashville, TN, to visit a friend. The deputy who spoke with Boyd described him as coherent, answering all of the deputy’s questions. The deputy saw no reason to hold Boyd, so he let him go.

    Boyd's 2008 Chevrolet Impala was found abandoned off Route 215 near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Pisgah National Forest on May 15. A caller reported that Boyd's car had been at the parking area in the Chestnut Ridge area for two days, and authorities began searching for him withut being able to locate him.

    According to Boyd's son, his father had taken a shotgun and left behind his bipolar medication and his cell phone. Boyd’s family told police that he has disappeared for brief periods in the past.
