Details of Disappearance
Bertha was reported missing by out of state mother during January 1993, when she couldn't reach Bertha by phone. The investigation revealed that the last person who saw her was her husband, at their home during the early evening hours of 12/27/1992. Her husband stated that she walked out of their Fredericksburg apartment, after 9 p.m. when the family was asleep. He did not report her as missing and claimed he assumed she had run away. They had been married since 1986 and lived in Fredericksburg since 1988. Police searched the apartment and found to trace of foul play.
Betha did not have a car at the time, nor any money or credit cards. She left no note. Only a suitcase and a few clothes were missing, according to her husband. When she disappeared, Bertha had a baby-sitting job. She had previously worked as a waitress, and at clothing stores. She has never been heard from by friends or family.
According to her mother Bertha's marriage was troubled, but Bertha wanted to fight for her marriage. Her husband stated they were separating and that Bertha was depressed. She had told her mother she was over three months pregnant, but her husband stated that if she was, the baby was not his.
Bertha left behind two daughters: an 8 years old from an earlier marriage and a 4 year old with her husband. This investigation has continued over the years with negative results for any trace of Bertha.
