Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Christina was last seen on September 17, 1973, in the company of her mother, Janet Gail Carter, in Hueytown, Alabama.
Mrs. Carter's nude body was found October 7, 1973 in a duffle bag on the side of the road at Clingman's Dome in the Smoky Mountains National Park. It was almost a month before Janet Carter was identified by North Carolina authorities, through dental charts and x-rays.
She had been working in the Birmingham area for an insurance company until shortly before her disappearance. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., she was involved in a custody case with Christina's father at the time. Her family thought she had gone into hiding because of this.
