Details of Disappearance
Amber was last seen on April 11, 2004. Cates left her mother's residence on 2381 Tracy Lane in Columbia with James Gordon, one of her friends. She was seen in a gold Mazda bearing license-plate number PFB-200. She was supposed to return two-days later from a short Spring Break trip. Gordon told authorities Cates left him while in Columbia. Gordon said she accompanied a man named Ronald Inzurriaga, who is also known by the alias California. Inzurriaga is now incarcerated in a federal prison on unrelated charges. He told authorities she left with another man and that he had no knowledge of Cates’ whereabouts.
Cates' sister, had custody of Amber at the time she disappeared. Cates grew up in Spring Hill, lived in several states and then returned to Tennessee as a ward of the state. Amber may still be in the local area or she may travel to Georgia or Texas. She's never used her Social Security account number. She had a driver's license, but there's been no record of any infractions.
