Missing from the Ship - Canadian Provider - Gary is an engineer who was on board the Canadian Provider, a large freighter carrying grain. Sailor Gary Charlton, of Nova Scotia, had gotten off work in the engine room in the early morning hours of October 20, 2010, He had talked to his wife, then he was gone. Gary was last seen at 4 a.m. Wednesday October 20, 2010 when the vessel was just north of Rochester, N.Y. He was discovered missing when he did not show up for his shift at noon, crew members got concerned and searched the ship with so sign of him. A call went out to the Coast Guard and a massive search began. Investigators believe Gary slipped and fell from the ship. Coast Guard rescue crews from Oswego, Rochester, and Alexandria Bay were involved in the search. Authorities from the US and Canada searched more than 3000 square miles of water in hopes of locating him. After 25 hours the search was called off.U.S. Coast Guard Div 5 dida 25 hour search, but due to weather it was stopped.
