    • Details of Disappearance
    Austin was seen leaving on a fishing trip with John Zimmerman and Scott Keller. Childs, Scott Keller, John Zimmerman, and a yellow Labrador retriever set out from Freeport on an offshore fishing expedition on Zimmerman's 28-foot boat. Their boat was found capsized in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Childs, a former Dobie High School student, planned to attend San Jacinto College to specialize in automobile repair. He had begun a job at Ron Carter Chevrolet's service department, where he had worked just three days.

    An avid fisherman since he was a young boy, Childs had asked his parents to buy him a fishing boat for graduation. Though he didn't get his wish, the teen had plans to one day buy his own boat. He would go fishing at least once a month. If it wasn't on a friend's boat, he would fish from the piers in Galveston.
