Details of Disappearance
Diane Chorba was last seen on May 24, 1979. She was three months pregnant with her third child. The father of her unborn child, Clarence Oliver Bean JR., claimed Chorba was killed on the flight of American Airlines 191 that crashed in Chicago, Illinois. Bean told police he had taken Chorba to Big Rapids on the evening of May 24, 1979 so she could meet with someone that would take her to O'Hare Airport. Chorba's remains were never found, and she was eliminated as one of the passengers on that flight.
In January 1980, as the investigation into Chorba disappearance continued, Bean, a truck driver, left Michigan and moved his family to Oregon where he continued to live untile he was arrested on February 16, 2001.
Bean's wife testified that she was with Bean when he disposed of Diane Chorba body in the woods near rural Bristol, Michigan. Bean was convicted and received from 30 to 60 years in a Michigan Prison. Diane Chorba's remains have never been found. Chorba was a former Niles resident.
