  • Details of Disappearance
Kyle was last seen at approximately 11:00 pm on Tuesday, January 27, 1976, leaving the Moose Club in LaGrange, Georgia. He was presumably en route to Auburn University in Alabama. Clinkscales was a 22-year-old junior at Auburn University when he disappeared. He had tended bar at the LaGrange Moose Lodge and driven off in his 1974 Ford Pinto. His parents never heard from him again.

His car, a white two-door Pinto Runabout with Georgia license plates numbered CEF-717, has never been recovered.

For 13 years after their child disappeared, the Clinkscales operated an organization called FIND-ME to help other families locate their missing children. John Clinkscales, a Talladega native, wrote a book, "Kyle's Story: The Search for Missing Children," about he and his wife's efforts to find their son. They also helped establish the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Clinkscales served on its board.
