Details of Disappearance
Benjamin was last seen at a gathering with friends in Gloucester on New Year's Eve of 2012. He left the party about 5:30 p.m., headed to his rental house in the Ware Neck area of Gloucester. Benjamin told his family he was tired and was going home.
Benjamin was reported missing after his van was found abandoned in Tappahannock on January 1, 2013.
Tappahannock police found Benjamin's 1998 Dodge van abandoned on the side of Route 698, also known as Hobbs Hole Drive, in the Town of Tappahannock on January 1, 2013. Numerous personal items remained in the van, along with Benjamin's dog.
Mr. Coffey is a sailboat enthusiast and has spent a great deal of time in and around marinas throughout the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. He grew up in Richmond, where he rowed crew and attended sailing camps at Christ Church School in Middlesex County. He was renting a house from a friend he met at a marina in Gloucester, and was restoring a vintage boat.
Foul play is suspected.
