Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Joan left 2810 Elderwood Road in Salem, Virginia on January 24 and had contact with a friend on January 25. That is the last contact she has had with anyone. Her husband told police she left their home on Elderwood Road near Salem to go to a friend's house about a mile away, but never made it there and never came back home. The next morning, management at Brandon Oaks, a Roanoke retirement community where Cook worked as an administrative assistant, reported her as a no-call, no-show employee. After she had been missing a week, with no calls from her to check on their daughter, her husband filled out a missing persons report at the Roanoke County Police Department. Detectives agreed with the family that Joan Cook would never have willingly left her daughter, but it is unknown what happened to her, or if foul play is involved. She had no vehicle at the time.
