  • Details of Disappearance
Stephanie was last seen at the Challis Lanes Bowling Alley between 5 and 6 p.m. Reports differ when recounting whether Stephanie was heading to her home that was only 500 yards away, or if she was heading to the high school to watch soccer practice.

By the next day multiple deputies, the Search and Rescue team, the Challis Volunteer Fire Department, FBI agents, ISP, Idaho Bureau of Investigation, Idaho Fish and Game, 300 individuals and tracking dogs were all searching for Stephanie.

Stephanie's parents died from natural causes in 1997 and in 2012, both without knowing what happened to their daughter.

A suspect in her disappearance, Keith Glenn Hescock, a tool salesman, shot and killed himself following a shootout with police at the end of a 40-mile pursuit through Heise, Kelly Canyon and then into Madison County. Hescock was also a suspect in the disappearance of Amber Shawnelle Hoopes in 2001.
