  • Details of Disappearance
During the fall of 1993, Crist Nelson Dauberman, Sr., disappeared from his home in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Dauberman was on disability due to
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Dauberman is a former paratrooper and Vietnam veteran. In 1984 Dauberman was convicted of three misdemeanor charges in Spotsylvania of assaulting his two sons and abusing his wife.

Since his disappearance, his family has not heard from him. His son said he walked out of the family home after an argument, and leaving for periods of time was not unusual for the senior Dauberman. Dauberman Jr. said he saw his father in 2001, but police believe he has been gone since October of 1993 and fear that Dauberman Sr. met with foul play.

His disappearance apparently didn't become known to authorities until sometime in 2003, when the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office took an initial report. He was reported missing by his brother who lost contact in 1995.

In 2007 his wife and two sons-Wendy Dauberman, 58, Crist Dauberman Jr., 36, and Craig Dauberman, 33 were indicted in federal court in Richmond on fraud and theft charges. The Daubermans are accused of cashing $367,330 worth of Social Security and Department of Veterans Affairs disability checks that were sent to Crist Dauberman Sr. The government alleges that the Daubermans committed fraud by knowingly spending money intended for Crist Dauberman. Dauberman was getting about $3,000 a month in government checks. A U.S. District Court jury in Richmond convicted Wendy and Crist Dauberman Jr. on 12 counts that involved fraudulently stealing Dauberman Sr.'s disability checks and covering it up.

The checks for Dauberman Sr. stopped in 2004 and 2005, after investigations began into his whereabouts. Those investigations were prompted by his brother, Claude Dauberman, who called the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office after getting increasingly frustrated by his sister-in-law and nephews' vague answers whenever he asked about his brother.

Wendy Dauberman's home on Orange Plank Road was burned the morning after she and her son were convicted. Spotsylvania authorities say it was arson, but no arrests have been made.
