  • Details of Disappearance
Laurie Depies left her job at the Graffiti Store in Fox River Mall. Depies had planned to meet her boyfriend at his apartment at 310 West Wilson Avenue. About 22:15, the boyfriend heard her car's loud muffler and a door slam when she arrived home, but Depies never made it into the apartment. Her vehicle was located at the apartment complex in Menasha. The car was locked. A soft drink cup was found on the hood on Depies' car, but there were no other signs of her at the scene.

Larry DeWayne Hall, who had long been a person of interest in the case, told authorities that he kidnapped and killed Depies. At the time, police cautioned that no evidence linking Hall to Depies had been found, but pointed out that Hall provided details about the case that hadnít been publicized. Hall, 49, is serving a term of life in prison with no parole for the 1993 kidnapping of Jessica Roach, 15, of Illinois. He is incarcerated at a federal prison in Butner, N.C. Hall confessed to Town of Menasha police in November 2010 that he abducted and killed Depies. He claimed that he dumped her body at a remote location in southcentral Wisconsin. Several searches in the spring of 2011 for Depiesí remains in an area described by Hall came up empty.
