  • Details of Disappearance
Ande Fan was last seen August 8, 2004, in the early morning hours at Bella Vista, an independent-living facility on Eastern Street, where he lived in Building C. All personal belongings were left behind including his ID, key, passport and money. Ande had called his mother in China often and he had last spoken to her August 6, 2004. There were no indications or signs for his disappearance. After his disappearance, a police detective checked with Fanís bank and determined that he hadnít written any checks and his ATM card had not been used. Fan had family in China and one time mentioned wanting to go back there. His relatives there have never heard from him, however. Police found nothing to indicate he ever bought a plane ticket to go to China. While Fan did have mental health problems, police have no evidence of suicide. Ande Fan had lived in the New Haven area since about 1998 until his disappearance. Fan was described as quiet, very friendly and polite and was frequently seen riding his bicycle. Fan had received services from Continuum of Care of New Haven, a nonprofit that offers mental health services and helps clients with life skills. Fan is presumed dead.
