  • Details of Disappearance
Mari was last seen on Christmas Eve,2002, outside a Subway sandwhich shop on Highway 41,west of Port Allen. She had been on her way to visit her husband,Jerry Fowler, who was serving a 5-year prison term for Bribery in Texas. Mari's belongings, as well as some acrylic fingernails, were found scattered about the parking lot, indications of a possible struggle. Her purse and some Christmas gifts were located in her car.
Police believe she was abducted from the strip mall parking lot.
Mari is a possible victim of serial killer Derrick Todd Lee; Lee owned a truck similar to the one seen at the site of Mari's abduction, and cellular phone records place him nearby Mari when she was abducted. Police attempted to link Lee and Mari with DNA and were unsuccessful, but many investigators still believe Lee had something to do with Mari's disappearance.
Mari has never been located and neither Lee nor anyone else has been charged in her case. She was declared legally dead in May 2004, seventeen months after she was last seen.
