Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Grant, the mother of two, was last seen by family on Oct. 14, 2012, and by friends in the early hours of the next day. Shewas last seen buying snacks and soft drinks in a local grocery store at 2 o’clock in the morning.
Her car was located on October 20th, 2012 on Nelson Logging Road with the receipt from the grocery store, her ID, her favorite pair of headphones, and other personal effects. Nelson Logging road is the end of the road in the small town of Sitka, Alaska.
Sitka is an island with only 14 miles of road. The only way to travel off of the island is by ferry or plane. Lael did not have a valid identification in order to travel out of town.
Grant had an involvement with drugs and Sitka’s drug culture. Grant liked to hike — often alone — but the Nelson Logging Road was not where she usually went. Grant was under stress: She had broken up with her boyfriend and her father had just died — his funeral was the day before she was last seen.
She has been declared dead. Police are now investigating her disappearance as a homicide.
