  • Details of Disappearance
Hatfield was last seen inside her family's residence in Midwest City, Oklahoma on May 13, 1997. She was in her bedroom with her sister at approximately 11:30 PM when her mother last saw her.

Her mother checked the bedroom again at approximately 6:00 AM on May 14 and discovered that Hatfield was missing. Small amounts of blood were discovered on the room's window sill and on the backyard's fence. Hatfield's underpants were located in the yard. There was no sign of her and she has not been seen again.

Authorities suspect that Hatfield was abducted from her bedroom sometime during the overnight hours. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance.

A former neighbor of the girl, 56-year-old Anthony Joseph Palma, was arrested in October 2015, and charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder. His DNA sample matched DNA on the underwear and the window sill. Palma lived just two doors down from the Hatfield house and had been interviewed twice in 1997. Palma told investigators he was in bed the night Kirsten disappeared but awoke about 2 a.m. because a dog was barking.

Authorities filed the murder charge because they believe Kirsten is dead. Despite extensive searches, Kirstenís body has never been found.
