  • Details of Disappearance
Samuel contacted family members from a pay phone and told them he was leaving El Paso and going home to Denver, CO. He never made it. Officials do not know what means of transportation Hernandez planned to use to travel.

According to his wife, Eliana Hernandez, he may be hiding. She found out that Sam was using a sister's address in Utah to receive his Social Security disability check, but his sister supposedly lost contact with him around 2010. Sam's sister called in 2000, saying he wanted to talk to his wife and sons. Supposedly, he was living in a tent in Utah in the mountains. The sons were reluctant to speak to him, and the communication did not take place.

Sam is former military, and had trouble holding a steady job, according to his wife. She describes hiim as talented and intelligent.

Texas authorities suspect that Samuel has met with foul play.
