  • Details of Disappearance
Starr was last seen on May 18, 2005 in Middletown, California, by her husband, who said she left angry after an argument. Starr has left home on several previous occasions, usually following domestic disputes.
One of her children however, said her mother has never gone this long without contacting her and that, even more worrying, Hill's credit card companies have still not reported any activity on those accounts.
Chief Deputy Russell Perdock of the Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) said the agency had received numerous calls from people who say they saw Hill, around the time she disappeared, but that so far nothing has come of that information. "They followed up on all of those leads, but were able to make contact with her personally," Perdock said.
LCSO, along with members of K-Corps and Lake County Search and Rescue, conducted a search for Starr Hill on May 24, 2005 on the 37-acre property where she lived with her husband. Officials said they found no trace of her during that, or a subsequent search.
Curtis Hill, and other family members handed out brochures about Starr's disappearance in the south county, Napa County and in Fort Bragg, where she had been known to visit. A vineyard worker checking fence lines south of Lower Lake found Starr’s cell phone. Police say the phone was found in brush alongside Highway 29 by the unidentified man who, after he found the phone, charged it and tried to find out who it belonged to by calling the last number in its call log. That number belonged to Hill's mother, who lives in Auburn. Police say the last call made was to her mother May 17, 2005, Starr’s mother said the last time she spoke with her daughter though, was May 16, 2005.
Starr's husband became incooperative with the investigation, and police deem him a person of interest in her disappearance. Starr has missed her grandchildrens birthdays, and contacted no one in her family, which they say is totally uncharacteristic. Even when she disappeared previously, she always let someone know she was okay. Several sightings of Starr, the latest in October, 2005, were never confirmed. Her DNA is available.
