A stormy day on May 2nd, 1972, Billy flew from Danbury, Connecticut, for his hometown of Houlton. Hogan was picking up a new Citabria aircraft to deliver to Lisair (his employer) in Houlton, Maine.
He placed a mayday call that was picked up by the Portland, Maine airport. It is believed his plane may have crashed in Southwestern Maine or Eastern New Hampshire in poor weather.
