Details of Disappearance
Kendrick was last seen at his father's, Roderick Fountain, apartment. Fountain went upstairs to put clothes in the dryer and noticed the child was missing and the front door was ajar when he came back downstairs. He called the police and the child's mother.
A witness claimed to have seen the little boy at a bus stop near the apartment complex holding hands with a black male in his 30s or 40s and of average build.
An Amber Alert was issued and Texas EquuSearch searched a five-mile area around the apartment complex.
After further investigation, police charged Fountain with injury to a child and filing a false police report. Prior to the disappearance, Kendrick was said to have bruises. Police stated that Fountain changed his story several times throughout the investigation.
In 2011 Fountain was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the April 7, 2006 murder of his son. Evidence at the trial included testimony of two jailhouse informants who said he confessed to throwing Kendrick's body off of boat ramp.
