Details of Disappearance
Jones was last heard from when she called her grandmother on January 3, 1999. She told her grandmother that she was due at 3pm to work at Brennan's, where she had been employed as a hostess. But something apparently changed her plans because her cousin spoke with her on the telephone that afternoon when she was supposed to be at work, and Jones was upset. When no one had heard from Jones by the next afternoon her godmother went to her apartment and found the heater, television and iron were on but their were no lights on.
Daphne was a student at the University of New Orleans who had just moved from the dorms to an apartment after discovering that she was pregnant. She worked part-time at Brennan’s Restaurant and was supposed to work a 3 p.m. shift the day she went missing but never arrived for work.
Just six days after her disappearance, Daphne was scheduled to quit her job, leave school, and return home to Maryland to live with her mother. The plane ticket had already been purchased. According to Daphne’s family she was being pressured to end the pregnancy but refused.
