Blake Kepley was last seen in the early morning hours on the cruise ship Oosterdam sailing from Sitka to Ketchikan on July 22, 2011. Fallbrook, California resident Blake Kepley, 20, was a passenger on the Holland America cruise ship Oosterdam, which was operating a seven-day cruise in Alaska. The cruise began on July 17. Kepley was with a dozen other family members on the cruise.to celebrate his grandmother's 80th birthday.
At about 4 p.m. Friday, the cruise line reported to the Coast Guard that Kepley was missing and had possibly gone overboard early Friday morning while the ship was sailing from Sitka to Ketchikan. Kepley was reported missing by family members at about 2:30 p.m. Friday when he did not arrive to exit from the cruise ship in Ketchikan as scheduled. Family members said Kepley was last seen between midnight and 1 a.m. on Friday.
The Coast Guard's combined search effort included three Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew searches, and on the water searches by the crews of the Coast Guard Cutter Naushon and a Small Boat Station Ketchikan 47-foot Motor Life Boat. The searches covered more than 352 miles, according to a Coast Guard press release. The search was suspended on Saturday.
