Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Kergan, who owned a chain of Sonic Drive-in restaurants, was last seen November 28, 1984, at a Baton Rouge lounge in the company of exotic dancer, Leila M. Mulla. He was wearing $8,000 worth of jewelry and was carrying $2,000 in cash. Kergan was last seen at Mullaís home before his death.
Mulla and her boyfriend, Ronald Dunnagan were arrested and booked with Kergan's murder but were released when no body could be found. Kergan's car was found in Metairie with a pool of blood in the trunk.
Mulla and Dunnagan were arrested in 2013 when new DNA techniques linked specks of blood found in the trunk of Kerganís car to the original suspects. Investigators allege that Mulla and Dunnagan beat Kergan to death before disposing of the body. Dunnagan was released after the grand jury chose to pretermit, neither indicting or clearing the defendant. Charges might be brought against him at a later date. Kergan was married with an 11-year-old son.
