Details of Disappearance
On April 24, 1999, her suspected killer, convicted sex offender John E. Williams, hung himself in his jail cell.
He left no suicide note.
Williams had told authorities he accidentally hit Kipper with his car as she stood on the shoulder and buried her.
Police believe he killed her and disposed of her body.
Police discovered Crystal Kipper's ID cards, a paycheck stub, jewelry, her car keys, a mock turtleneck and a pair of "Lucky U" brand jeans in Williams' apartment
during an investigation involving an abduction and sexual assault of another woman.
They also found a missing-person flier of Kipper, in addition to computer files. Crystal's body has never been located, though areas in Platte City and near where her car was found were searched extensively.
Kipper was heading home from St. Joseph, Missouri,
about 2:20 a.m. on February 24, 1997.
Crystal was last seen at approx. 2:20am on the southbound shoulder of I-29 at State Route 371 when her vehicle ran out of fuel.
Her 1989 Maroon Ford Probe LX was found
on the side of the road, locked and out of gas with the flashers on. She has
not been seen since.
