Details of Disappearance
Pauline Klumpp, who disappeared from Port Arthur, was 51 when she was last seen on July 2, 1988. Pauline Klumpp rented a house to the ex-wife of Roy Allen Melanson in Port Arthur.
Melanson has spent more than half of his life in prison. His rap sheet is a medley of offenses from burglary to rape to murder.
In 1988, he went to Port Arthur, Texas, where his ex-wife was living with her boyfriend, renting from Pauline Klumpp, and Melanson made himself at home with them.
On July 2, Klumpp came to the house to pick up a television she had loaned them. Melanson left with Klumpp, saying Klumpp wanted him to check on her air conditioner.
Four days later, her car was found in a grocery store parking lot with the TV still in it, but Klumpp was never seen again. Interviewed about Klumpp’s disappearance while he was in custody in Kentucky, Melanson said she was alive and well when he last saw her.
A man who traveled with Melanson said Melanson mentioned women he had killed and dumped in a swampy area around Fort Worth.
