  • Details of Disappearance
Heather disappeared while baby-sitting for family friends Dana Madden and Christopher Herbert on July 15, 1999. Madden was working overnight, and Herbert told police he was partying with a friend by the river that night. He said he came home after 4 a.m. to find their 2-month-old daughter unharmed but alone in the apartment in the 1600 block of Yale Avenue in Richmond Heights. Police said Herbert called Madden, who was working at a convenience store in Ferguson. Madden called the police, and authorities showed up to the apartment about 5 a.m. Police have theorized that Heather could have witnessed illegal activity and was subsequently killed. Drug paraphernalia was found in the basement of the apartment complex. Police have monitored a group of people in connection to Heatherís disappearance, but no one has been charged.
