Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Jamie was reported missing by her father in California on May 28, 2010 after receiving a call from Jamie's boyfriend Bryan Stewart saying she had been missing since mid March. Bryan Stewart told friends that Jamie broke up with him on the evening of March 17th, 2010 and moved to Denver, Colorado the next day. Shortly after Laiaddee was reported missing, he was stopped by Scottsdale police for an unrelated traffic warrant. The car he was driving belonged to his missing ex-girlfriend, and credit cards he was using were determined to belong to her, too.
Jamie's purse, one of her cellular phones, and her passport were all found at her residence upon a police search.
Further investigation revealed Jamie's boyfriend was living under an assumed identity. His real name was Rick Valentini, he was a con man with three ex-wives, two children, and a criminal record. He had lied to Jamie about his name, age and background, fabricating a younger, college-educated personna. He never reported Jamie as missing. Hours after she vanished, he was using her credit cards. He drove her cars and removed money from her bank accounts. He purchased memberships to matchmaking websites and began dating. On March 17, 2010, the last day Laiaddee was seen alive, she told a lawyer friend that she was afraid of her boyfriend and that police wouldn't be able to help.
In 2011, a jury convicted Bryan Stewart, a.k.a. "Rick Valentini" of murdering his girlfriend, even though detectives never found Jamie Laiaddee's body. He was sentenced to a total of 54 years in prison between the murder and a separate conviction on a related fraud case.
Laiddee's body was never found, but while Stewart was in police custody, he was heard telling other inmates that he disposed of her body in a way that police would never find it. Stewart told fellow inmates that he shot Laiaddee with a sawed-off shotgun.
Jamie Laiaddee, a University of Michigan graduate, was described as smart, cautious and thoughtful. She was raised by her Thai immigrant parents in Pasadena, California. Jamie had a well-paying job selling medical equipment and owned a home in Chandler, an affluent suburb. Laiaddee was the main earner in the household she shared with Valentini until she was laid off from her job in August 2009. Laiaddee financed their lifestyle, paying all the bills and providing a recently purchased Ford for Valentini, who had no driver's license.
