Details of Disappearance
Heather was last seen at White Pine Middle School on April 4, 2003.
Lewis disappeared after cigarettes were found in her possession at school and she was suspended.
She did not go home and has not been seen in Ely since.
Shortly before she disappeared, Lewis told friends in Ely that she missed her mother, older brother and maternal grandparents in Oklahoma and wanted to visit them.
In 2003, Lewis lived with her father and stepmother in Ely.
A witness reported to have seen her in a convenience store and she and some other girls were talking about how they were going to get to Las Vegas.
Detectives have never identified the girls that were with her in a store in McGill.
That was the last tip investigators had of a credible report of a local sighting of Lewis.
Since then, the sheriff's department received other calls from people saying they thought they had seen her in White Pine County.
All of those tips were proven to not be the missing teen.
Her family believes she ran away.
