  • Details of Disappearance
Limesand was last seen at approximately 3:30 PM on November 12, 1999 in Marion, North Dakota. He was driving his red 1995 Ford Club Cab pickup truck with North Dakota license plates EIP-754. The vehicle had a red tool box featuring "4x4" decals installed in its bed. He was en route to his son's farm. Limesand never arrived as scheduled.

Limesand's truck was discovered abandoned on a street in Moorehead, Minnesota on November 16, 1999, four days after his initial disappearance. Traces of his blood were found inside the vehicle. The Wrangler tire that was normally placed in the truck's bed was missing and has never been recovered.

In November 2006, authorities announced a break in the case. Limesand's neighbor at the time, Steve Thomas, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Norman's death. Witnesses say Limesand was arguing with Thomas over some water drainage problems between their adjoining properties. While returning from hunting there was an encounter with Norman Limesand near Thomas' home when Thomas recklessly discharged his firearm which accidentally killed Norman Limesand.

Unfortunately, Thomas is now claiming that he cannot remember where he left Norman's body. Thomas has said he pulled Norman's body into a cattail slough somewhere off the road. Authorities say it could be in LaMoure, Barnes or Stutsman counties.

Limesand's blood and a lens from his eyeglasses were found near the culvert, across from Thomas' mother's farm house. Thomas had burned the area the day after Limesand disappeared.

He was declared dead in 2002.
