Details of Disappearance
Judith's husband was found deceased days after her disappearance.
He was located in his pickup truck in a New Haven church parking lot.
He apparently strangled himself with a zip tie.
There were no signs of a struggle, but a suicide note was found with James Mattise's body.
The note stated that Judith's body could be found in "a big pile". The family believes this may refer to a local landfill.
James filed for divorce, after 34 years of marriage, on April 25 in Macomb County Circuit Court.
Judith had developed a relationship with a prisoner at Macomb Correctional Facility in Lenox, where she volunteered.
The couple operated Unlimited Services, which provided repairs and maintenance for optical inspection machines.
In August 2004, Judith was declared legally dead.
Judith was last seen on May 19, 2003 in New Haven, Michigan, driving her 2003 silver Chevy Impala with MI license #3AQW95.
Judith's car was later recovered in September of 2003 in Detroit.
It was undamaged and the keys were still in the ignition.
Her personal contents were still inside the passenger compartment.
The car, which was locked, had been given a parking ticket by Detroit police July 3 and had been sitting in front of an abondoned house since then.
