  • Details of Disappearance
Last seen at the Cat & Fiddle Night Club in Portage la Prairie in the early hours of Saturday October 18, 2008. She left in a vehicle and has not been seen or heard from since. McFarland’s car was later found in the Canad Inns parking lot, where she had left it the night before. Her purse and cell phone have never been located.

McFarland was last seen leaving the Cat and Fiddle Nite Club with her ex-boyfriend Kelly Colin Garrioch. Garrioch and another man, Graham Saxon, were seen on surveillance footage from the Midtown Motor Inn with McFarland buying beer and leaving together. Both men were taken into custody in July 2009 for questioning. Both were released and no charges were ever laid by the RCMP. McFarland had a restraining order against Garrioch, who was 38 years old at the time of the investigation. Garrioch pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order in February 2009.

He also pleaded guilty for an Oct. 14, 2008, offence to breaching another order to not attend the residence of another woman, with whom he had been in a relationship. The Crown withdrew Garrioch’s previous charges of assault allegedly against McFarland and charges of driving while disqualified (May 21, 2008) in January 2009. Both charges relied on evidence from McFarland, according to the Crown, and since she was missing the prosecutor couldn’t continue his case.

During the hearing in February 2009, Garrioch’s defence attorney, Jeremy Kostiuk, said his client was cooperative with police in their investigation into McFarland’s disappearance. n June and July 2008, RCMP Forensic Mobile Response Unit searched Garrioch’s home on Yellowquill Trail and another home on 4th Street S.E. and King Avenue, but found no evidence.

At the time of her disappearance, Amber was working at Mark's Work Warehouse and was about to start a second part-time job at Tavern United in Canad Inns. Her family said she had plans to study interior design.
