Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
On June 3, 2003 at approximately 9:00 a.m. a fisherman and his helper, Phillip McKAY, left Berens River Manitoba to retrieve their commercial fishing nets from Sandy Bar Bay. Upon arrival, one of the nets got caught in the propeller of the boat motor, pulling the boat down. Shortly thereafter, 2 large waves capsized the boat and both men were thrown into the water. Both men were wearing oilers, making it difficult to swim. McKAY was also physically disabled, having a form of muscular dystrophy. The fisherman survived and was treated for shock and hypothermia. The body of his helper, Phillip McKAY was never located. Phillip McKAY is presumed dead due to drowning.
