  • Details of Disappearance
Gianni and Joseph Jr. were last seen on February 4, 2010. They may be in the company of Summer McStay and Joseph McStay Sr.
The family of four hasn’t been heard from since February 4, 2010. Four days later their car turned up in a San Ysidro parking lot near the border. A grainy video showed two adults and two young children approaching the San Ysidro border crossing on February 8, though authorities haven’t been able to determine for sure whether it is the missing family. The family members' passports are not current and they left both of the children's birth certificates behind. Deputies checked on the family on the evening of February 15 at the request of Joseph McStay's brother. The family wasn't there, but their two dogs were, and had been left uncared for. There was no indication the McStays had gone on a planned trip, and it would be out of character for them to leave for so long without sharing their plans or talking with family and friends. However, information gathered on the home computer of Joseph and Summer McStay indicates the couple was making travel inquires about Mexico on the Internet a week before they were reported missing,
