Details of Disappearance
Mimmovich was reportedly last seen in Deerfield Beach, Florida at approximately 6:00 a.m. She had left her mother's home to attend a birthday party in Auburndale. Afterwards, she apparently went to Deerfield Beach with her boyfriend of four months, Dion Kaseta. He claims she wanted to watch the sunrise.
Kaseta's sister's house was located at Deerfield Beach, which is on the ocean and four miles from Mimmovich's residence in Lake Wales. Kaseta says she told him she was going for a walk alone, left, and never returned. Mimmovich was not familiar with the Deerfield Beach area and has no friends or relatives living there.
She has not used her phone since she disappeared.Kaseta reported Mimmovich missing the next day, after searching for her when she failed to meet him after her walk. He is considered the prime and only suspect in Mimmovich's disappearance. Police say they don't believe she was ever at Deerfield Beach on the day of her disappearance and that Kaseta's version of events leaves hours uncovered.
Mimmovich's mother says her daughter's relationship with Kaseta was troubled at the time that she disappeared and that they frequently fought. Kaseta says they had differences but never argued. Neighbors recalled Kaseta and Mimmovich had a loud argument on the eve of her disappearance. Neighbors testified that they heard things hitting walls in the couple's trailer that night, then they heard one loud thump, followed by silence. Kaseta was upset with Mimmovich because he overheard her tell a man at a bar that she wasn't dating anyone. She is a graduate of Auburndale High School and left behind a 16-year-old daughter. She had a job at Gator Promotions at the time of her disappearance. Some reports may state that Mimmovich lived in Buckboard Trail.
Investigators searched the couple's Lake Wales home after Mimmovich's disappearance. A favorite watch that Mimmovich always wore was left inside.
A grand jury indicted Dion Kaseta in August 2010 on a charge of second-degree murder. The charges was later reduced to manslaughter. He was convicted of manslaughter in 2012, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Authorities never have found Kimberly Mimmovich's body but maintained that Kaseta killed her during an argument at the trailer they shared in December 2001.
