Details of Disappearance
Moreira Monsalve was last seen at her ex-boyfriend’s, Bernard Brown, home in Wailuku.
He says she left around 10 or 10:30 p.m, she apparently left her car there and he dropped it off the next morning at a car repair shop. She did not make any phone calls to anyone to pick her up. She may have been in a black Dodge Nitro or a silver Buick Park Avenue Ultra around the time of her disappearance.
Two days later, her daughter reported her missing.
On January 16, 2014, personal belongings, including her purse, were recovered from a dumpster at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku. Police followed up with a two-day search around Waipoli Road in Kula, using search dogs. Other searches have been conducted.
Police have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in Monsalve’s disappearance. Her ex-boyfriend, Bernard Anthony Brown, has been identified as a person of interest but has not been charged in the case. Monsalve's friends and family say Brown was abusive.
