  • Details of Disappearance
Jay-Quan and his mother, Lynda Jean Wilkes, were last seen at a strip mall in the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue in Jacksonville. Wilkes, who had four other children, and her baby were last seen April 22, 2004, when they met her former boyfriend, John Mosley Jr. about child support payments. A court had ordered Mosley to pay Wilkes support for the boy, but he denied being the father.

Lynda was found deceased on April 30, but the child's whereabouts are unknown. Information led police to Wilkes' body in woods near Waldo, and led police to search a Valdosta, Ga., landfill for four days looking for Jay-Quan's body.

A witness told police that Mosley called him after abducting Wilkes and Jay-Quan and witnessed Mosley strangle her with his bare hands. The report also said Mosley had the witness hold a plastic bag open as he put Jay-Quan in the bag, tied it closed and put it in the back of his SUV. The witness also told police the body of the baby was thrown in a trash bin in Ocala.

John Mosley Jr. was arrested and charged with their murders. He was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. Mosley, who was already in Duval County Jail on charges of having sex with a teenaged girl, has maintained his innocence. Foul play is suspected.
