Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Myers disappeared while climbing Mount McKinley in Alaska. At 4:30 a.m., Myers left a note for his companions saying "I'm going on as far as I can safely." He picked up his skis at a camp at 19,200 feet, and some descending climbers thought they saw him pass there, headed toward the 20,320-foot summit. He was never seen again. Searches found no signs of a snow cave or avalanche. The search for Myers ended six days after his disappearance — after 33 hours of flights over the mountain and 3,000 high-resolution aerial photos.
