  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Surgical scar on right ankle,
    tattoo of an "anchor" on earlobe, tattoo of a "star" on other earlobe,
    tattoo of a "Military ID" on right calf, tattoo of a "mermaid" on chest,
    tattoo of the "smile now, cry later masks" on back, unknown tattoos
    on forearm and right bicep, full dentures, previously fractured right
    ankle, recently fractured right hip that has pins in it. Wears
    eyeglasses, but did not have them with him.
  • Medical Conditions: Alzheimer's disease. Had hip surgery a few
    weeks prior to his disappearance.
  • Clothing: Dark blue sweatsuit or blue jeans, a white T-shirt,
    and blue or dark-colored slippers.
  • Jewelry: "Alzheimer's Alert" silver bracelet worn on left wrist.

    • Details of Disappearance
    Nelms was last seen on June 5, 2006 between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on foot in the area of Center Drive adjacent to Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in the city of Mission Viejo, California.

    He was living in the Paragon Gardens Board and Care Home since 12-31-05. Nelms was last seen by an employee on 6-5-06 at 0530 hrs in his room. By 0630 hours, he was gone. Nelms possibly got out of the home through a faulty door that is supposed to be alarmed, but may not have been functioning at the time.

    A search was conducted for him by use of bloodhounds, helicopters, and Deputies, with negative results. He had no history of running away.

    His wife manages all of his finances and Troy has no cash or credit cards available to him.
