Details of Disappearance
Kaliyah disappeared in 2006. Mother, India Parker, was charged with abuse of a corpse in the disappearance of her daughter on 12/24/2011. Kaliyah disappeared sometime in 2006. A social worker with the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services contacted police December 19 after hearing from a Garfield Heights man who said he had not seen the child for years and the mother told him that a bookcase had fallen on Kaliyah. The man and Parker have an 8-year-old son. He told investigators that he used to see Kaliyah when he picked up his son, and asked about the girl when he stopped seeing her at Parker's house. Parker gave him different explanations over the years, he told police.
Children and Family Services investigated Parker after receiving a report of her being an unfit parent in 2001 when she had two sons and a daughter. Parker was not allowed to leave the hospital with newborn Kaliyah. Kaliyah's grandmothers and a foster mother cared for her until Parker complied with the agency's parenting plan. In April 2003, Parker received custody of Kaliyah, then 2 years old. Parker and Kaliyah were monitored until the case was closed in November 2003. No further complaints were received.
