Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
Details of Disappearance
Opal was last seen at approximately 5:00am by a family member at her residence in the 100 block of Sir David Way in Las Vegas, NV. When the family member returned at 2:00pm Opal was gone.
Her vehicle was still at the residence, the television set and lights were on and nothing but her purse was missing.
Investigators do not believe Parsons left her home willingly. There were no signs of forced entry into her home, and police believe someone she knew or had reason to trust came to her door that morning. Her son believes her disappearance could be tied to other elderly crimes in the valley.
A man was caught using Opal's ATM card after claiming to have found her purse in a dumpster. Police believe the man may have only stumbled across Parsons' purse and cell phone in a dumpster. Parson's identification was found about a week later at a casino not far from her house.
Opal lived on a small retirement fund and Social Security checks from month to month. She was attractive, well liked and well known. She drove her friends around in her van and danced on Friday and Saturday nights. Parsons was involved in her church and did crossword puzzles daily.
