Donnie was last seen at approximately 8:00pm at an acquaintance's residence in the vicinity of Old Georgia Highway and Timken Road in Gaffney, SC. He left there, talking about walking to another friend's house, he began walking toward Cowpens on Highway 29 where the highway converges into two lanes from four, but he never arrived. Deputies searched along a wooded area near where Pennington was last seen.

His wife of 17 years, Teresa, filed a missing person report at the Sheriff's Office on March 7, 2006. Teresa Pennington said it isn't unusual for her husband to leave with a friend on Friday and not return until Sunday, but he's never been gone this long. Donnie Pennington doesn't suffer from a mental illness, his family said, and they don't know why he would leave without telling someone where he was going.

He's a carpenter by trade, he's outdoorsy, he likes to fish and be outside.
