  • Details of Disappearance
Lucia was last seen in the company of Bernardino Ramirez-Perez, when they may have traveled to Iowa in a maroon Buick Century. The car they were traveling in was eventually located in Worthington.

Information indicate they may have been in the Rock Valley, IA area on the afternoon of June 27, 2011. She may have been in Lake Park searching for a job June 27, 2011. Lucia Perez — who has an adult son, two young boys and a sister in Worthington — was last seen in Sheldon, Iowa, when she and Ramirez-Perez stopped by a possible employment location. Lucia Perez allegedly saw her brother-in-law at a hog facility and then called her sister around 4 p.m. to say she would be home in a while, and would call when she got back. Her sister never heard from her again.

Ramirez-Perez was questioned by authorities after family members reported Lucia Perez’s disappearance. Ramirez-Perez had returned to Worthington without Lucia Perez the evening of June 26, 2011 — bearing a large scratch on his face — but he told officials Lucia Perez had been taken into custody in Hull, Iowa, for some kind of immigration problem.

She vanished under suspicious circumstances. Bernardino Ramirez-Perez is a person of interest in the disappearance. Ramirez-Perez was described as a short, dark skinned Hispanic male, with a full beard and long hair at the time. He was approximately 35 to 40 years old in 2011. Ramirez-Perez is wanted on a 2005 warrant for kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Bernadino Ramirez-Perez has a long criminal history and four known aliases. He was deported from the U.S. in 2004 but was back by 2006 facing charges of domestic assault. Ramirez-Perez returned to Guatemala shortly after Lucia Perez went missing. Authorities contacted the Guatemalan embassy and got U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) involved, but with no results.

Deputies did not find evidence of foul play, but they were suspicious because Ramirez-Perez fled the area on the day Chilel Perez was last seen. There is no record of Chilel Perez contacting potential employers in Sioux County.
