  • Details of Disappearance
Marizela hasn't been heard from or seen by family since March 5, 2011. Marizela Perez, a student at the University of Washington, was reportedly carrying her laptop when she was last seen. Perez's family said they believe the young woman was headed for a light-rail station and then on to the university's campus.

The Seattle PD has probable visual identification of Marizela boarding the Othello train near her home in the Rainier Beach area and commuting into the University District during the noon hour on Saturday.

There's evidence that she was last seen Saturday afternoon at the Safeway in the city's University District on 4732 Brooklyn Avenue NE between 1-2pm. At some point during that time, purchases were made on her debit card. Marizela bought orange juice, trash bags, Tylenol and an over-the-counter sleeping aid from the Safeway. According to police, the last time Marizela’s cellphone registered contact with her carrier was through a cellphone tower at 47th Avenue Northeast at 2:45 p.m. the same time a text message was sent to her.

Marizela had been diagnosed with depression after her grandfather died and had been prescribed medication to treat it. She had moved from New Jersey to live with her aunt and uncle and attend college in Seattle. Shortly before her disappearance, Marizela had been distressed about a recent breakup with her boyfriend.

The police say they "have no reason to suspect foul play" at this point.
