Details of Disappearance
Rasmussen disappeared Sunday after competing in the Bay of Breakers race in San Francisco. He said goodbye to his friends in Golden Gate Park and headed to Ocean Beach around noon on May 19, 2013.
His clothing was later found on the beach, indicating he may have stripped down to his underwear, which was not found, and gone swimming.
The following night, his phone, credit cards and passport were discovered near the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant across the street from Ocean Beach. He was carrying his passport because he had lost his wallet. There were no indications he had a plan to disappear on his own.
According to the Coast Guard, no one fitting Rasmussenís description was seen by lifeguards entering the water Sunday afternoon or evening. Rasmussen is now presumed drowned at Ocean Beach.
who lived at Baker Lofts in Emeryville and worked as a Project Developer for EDF Renewable Energy in San Ramon at the time. He was in good shape and loved hiking and backpacking. He is a Portland native, and a graduate of the University of Oregon.
